This audio
conference will provide practical applications of a
customer-driven model for calculating the financial Return on
Investment (ROI) of employee assistance programs (EAPs). The
presentation examines the assumptions, methods, and metrics for
measuring ROI so that it will be believed by critical
customers. The presenter will start with a discussion of a
conceptual foundation for determining the kinds of outcomes
available to EAPs for defining their business value to
purchasing customers. This framework is based on the “EAP
Business Value Model” developed by the presenter and Dr. Tom
Amaral. The presentation will then review a variety of ROI
calculations for major kinds of workplace, health care, and
organizational outcomes.
This session
will include lecture-based learning modules on the major themes,
with audience interaction after each learning module section
to provide opportunities to share experiences, challenges,
ideas, and comments.

Mark Attridge, Ph.D.
President
Attridge Studios
Dr. Mark Attridge is an independent research
consultant specializing in design of measurement systems and
outcome research studies for workplace health services, and
development and customization of ROI analysis tools.
Previously, he was director of the National Data Cooperative (NDC)
for the U.S. Group and Health Care Practice of Watson Wyatt
Worldwide. The NDC has nearly 40 large employers that share
their health care claims data in a longitudinal data warehouse
for analysis and benchmarking based on over 1.6 million covered
lives.
Prior to joining Watson Wyatt in 2005, Dr. Attridge was a
Principal for Optum/United Health Group. During his 10 years at Optum, he managed an internal research department and directed a
wide variety of applied research projects involving health care
claims data, operational data, and surveys. He designed a
computer model for estimating the ROI from nurse advice lines,
EAPs, and educational self-care services. He has worked with
many Fortune 100 employers, national and regional health plans,
and government clients to assess the value of health management
and prevention services.
Dr. Attridge has authored more than 100 articles and conference
papers on topics in health care, psychology, and
communications. He is co-editor of a 2005 book on the
integration of employee assistance, work/life and wellness. He
is past chair of the Research Committee for the Employee
Assistance Professionals Association. He holds a Ph.D. degree
in psychology from the University of Minnesota.
