With today’s troubled and uncertain economy, organizations are
looking for ways to reduce expenses. This presents both a
challenge and an opportunity for EAPs. As a challenge, EAPs
find themselves under scrutiny for possible downsizing or
elimination. As an opportunity, EAPs that can provide real and
demonstrable value can prosper in these times and become
perceived as a valued business partner rather than an expendable
benefit.
This presentation describes research-driven and practical
strategies that can be easily implemented to increase the
business value and return-on-investment (ROI) of an EAP’s
services. The specific program-enhancing practices and policies
covered include: Outreach and casefinding methods that yield a
casemix of clients who generate a higher ROI; assessment
approaches and brief intervention services that produce greater
outcomes; and follow-up and case monitoring protocols that
enhance impact. The presenter will share specific case examples
of EAPs that have successfully implemented these strategies.
The EAP Business Value Model™ will also be discussed. This
model provides a valuable tool for understanding and
communicating a program’s sources of value to employers and
customers. This research-based model charts the primary areas
of EAP impact, identifies the specific types of EAP services
that produce these impacts, and shows how EAP collaborations and
partnerships can also have direct and indirect positive impacts
in these same workplace areas.
The presenter will also share practical and field-tested EAP
performance metrics as well as national comparison data on these
same metrics drawn from the EAP Data Warehouse™. The data in the
warehouse represent many different types of EAPs, including
internal EAPs in Fortune 1000 companies and governmental
organizations, blended internal and external hospital programs,
faculty/staff assistance programs, and external EAPs. These key
metrics allow an EAP to determine how well it compares with
other programs around the country and can be used to direct
program enhancements and increase return-on-investment.
