Per-employee-per-month rates for EAP
services have actually decreased over the past decade.
This is in stark contrast to employer-sponsored health costs,
which have risen dramatically.
Which of the following best
explains why prices remain low is the EAP field?
-
Intense competition and an oversupply of vendors.
-
Inability of the field to relate
costs to outcomes.
-
Field suffers from "low self esteem."
-
Low prices are a by-product of a mature industry.
-
All of the above.
How have EAPs primarily adapted to
deflation of rates?
-
Pay less to affiliates.
-
Reduce levels of
service.
-
Use cheaper service mediums,
such as the telephone and the web.
-
Use EAP as a platform to sell collateral products.
-
All of the above.
In the current capitated pricing
environment, ordinary (or marginal) service receives the same
rate as optimal service. EAP vendors providing optimal
service frequently realize that their superior service can be
billed to no one. This presentation will delve into trends
in EAP pricing and offer strategies to align better
performance with higher prices. The ultimate goal of the
presentation is to link the business case for higher quality EAPs with performance incentives and payment methodologies.
