Organizational Services:  Untapped Opportunity for EAPs

Organizational services assist employers in dealing with and responding to employee recruitment, retention, performance, satisfaction and ultimately "employer performance goals."  Organizational services are often provided by HR and OD departments and many outside consultants from University settings.  EAPs have a distinct advantage over all of these areas due to possessing intimate knowledge of workers that no other area has, including HR.  In addition, EAP providers already have unique behavioral science knowledge and training, which is what each of these other professions is striving to learn.  EAPs can keep the "core" EAP traditional services that have historically defined EAPs, while incorporating a "form" of organizational development/services that may push EAPs into a business necessity program.

Participants of the audio conference will develop an understanding of why these services are needed in today's market and how they can translate into business value for both internal and external programs.  Upon completion of the session, participants will have an understanding of how they can start to build up their own programs in order to implement organizational services with client companies.

Mark Hyde, MA, CEAP

Hyde Consulting

Mark graduated in 1990 from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago with a Masters Degree in Counselor Education.  He completed his undergraduate work in psychology at Iowa State University where he obtained a B.S. Degree in 1985.  Mark is certified by the National EAP Association as an Employee Assistance Professional.  He has been very active in both the national and international EAP associations. Prior to becoming a workplace consultant Mark spent time working in counseling, sales and management.

In 1993 he joined Vasquez Management Consultants in Gurnee, Illinois as an EAP consultant, providing guidance for employers and employees.  He spent 6 years with the firm providing an array of workplace programs, trainings and consultations in industries such as: manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, banking, public schools and city municipalities.

Mark joined Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in January of 1999 where he maintains his employment managing the Employee Assistance Program.  Mark provides consultation to those in leadership regarding an array of workplace issues on a routine basis.  He has provided hundreds of interactive workshops and presentations on team effectiveness and works with individual employees in order to improve the quality of their personal and work lives.

He is active in the National Employee Assistance Professionals Association and has presented to national and international EAP audiences.  He has published articles regarding programming issues for EAP professionals and is pioneering work on EAP programming initiatives related to organizational development within corporate EAP programs.  Mark is a regular radio guest workplace expert on KROC am talk radio in Rochester, MN.
