Today more than ever, EAPs need to measure
their impact and demonstrate business value. Benchmarking with
the use of standardized performance measures offers a powerful
tool for demonstrating value and engaging in continuous quality
improvement. With a set of universal metrics, purchasers and
corporate leaders can evaluate their EA programs based on
quality and performance rather than simply on the basis of
price. This presentation will describe practical and
field-tested EAP performance metrics for clinical and workplace
outcomes, provide national comparison data on these same
metrics, and show how this information can be used to
demonstrate value, improve program quality, increase
return-on-investment, and direct future research.
The presenter will describe specific
standardized and meaningful EAP metrics for outcomes that have
been developed over the past fifteen years. Types of measures
discussed will include global clinical outcomes, improvements in
problem severity ratings among certain high-risk groups such as
alcoholics and depressed individuals, self-reported measures of
productivity developed by the World Health Organization, changes
in absenteeism and medical benefits utilization, and
standardized clinical instruments.
The presenter will also share national normative data on these
same outcomes metrics, which will allow EAPs to determine how
well they compare with other programs around the country. This
benchmarking comparison information is drawn from the EAP Data
Warehouse™ managed by the presenter's organization. The data in
the warehouse represent many different types of EAPs, including
internal EAPs in Fortune 1000 companies and governmental
organizations, blended internal and external hospital programs,
and external EAPs.
